Each Frank Lloyd Wright tile is skillfully crafted by a staff dedicated to beauty and quality.   Every tile is pressed from an original plaster mold and glazed by hand in the Motawi Studio.

This handmade process gives each Frank Lloyd Wright tile its own unique character,  while still being an accurate reproduction of the original relief tile design. 

The Motawi's have spent years refining their craft. Every component from the custom mixed clay body to the proprietary glaze formulas has been perfected by Nawal and Karim Motawi.

The original glaze formulas known only to a few are carefully reproduced to insure the rich color depth that is a unique signature of Motawi Tile.

Tiles are embossed on the back with the original Motawi Tileworks name and logo from Ann Arbor, Michigan. This guarantees that each tile is authentic and hand made at the Motawi Tile studio.

(please note: All the Frank Lloyd Wright tile we stock is A-Grade coming directly from the Motawi Tileworks. We have seen Motawi tiles for sale on E-Bay that are factory seconds, please be careful ask to see the back of the tile. B-Grades are maked)

Each tile comes with a molded hanging notch which is pressed into the back of the tile before firing. Motawi tile are perfect for hanging as individual works of art but are sized with installation in mind.

They fit together with a 1/4" grout space between tiles. The actual size of a Motawi Tile is 1/4" less that the stated size. Thus a 4x4 is actually 3 3/4" x 3 3/4 square.    Each tile is 5/8" thick.
