About Schlabaugh and Sons Clocks:

Schlabaugh & Sons is a family-ownedhero-34-craftsman-clock-4x4-100.jpg woodworking business based in Kalona, Iowa. Brothers John & Mark began working for their father, Emil, in the home construction business over 30 years ago. Crafting cutting boards and serving trays from scraps left over from their fathers' custom-built homes, the creative juices started to flow. Though neither brother has had formal training in woodworking, per se, they began to discover more of the tools used to build cabinets in these custom homes and they each discovered ways to express themselves through the art of woodworking.

All of the fine Schlabaugh and Sons Wood Clocks and Lamps sold on Arts and Crafts Tile are handmade per order in the USA by the Craftsmen at Schlabaugh in Kalona, Iowa. These heirloom quality clocks are constructed using only the finest imported hardwood. The process begins with the careful selection and sorting of highest quality Oak, Cherry and Mahogany. Any boards with cracks, knots, checks, insect damage or stains are set aside, only the finest woods are use to make your clock.

With the clocks master pattern in hand, the boards for each clock are matched by color and grain pattern. Each part is then carefully cut and sanded before they are joined together. Smaller clocks are cut from single boards while the larger clocks are carefully constructed with mortised joints. The clock are expertly assembled and will last a lifetime.

The entire clock is finished outside and inside, back and bottom surfaces are sanded glass smooth and then stained. Once the fine woodwork is complete each piece receives a durable hand rubbed finish. With the wood surfaces finished, the glass lens and quartz movement are fit and secured in place. Finally, the Motawi Tileworks tile of your choice is inserted and secured. With the time set and tile installed, a finished wood panel covers the clocks' internal parts.

The exquisite craftsmanship is time consuming work. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for Schlabaugh and Sons to build your clock.
